About the Role

The Safety Device Engineer will support multiple safety devices throughout the full development lifecycle, from preliminary design through qualification and production. Core responsibilities include component-level test oversight, supplier coordination, nonconforming hardware disposition, and anomaly investigation leadership

Qualifications:

Required: 
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 2 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in STEM with 0 years of related engineering experience
  • Active US DoD Secret Security clearance, or higher at the time of application
Preferred: 
  • Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering degree
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-1316F, MIL-STD-1901A and JOTP-052
  • Experience with CREO
  • Environmental testing experience
  • Configuration change management
  • Supply Chain Management of Subcontractors
  • Presentation of technical data to internal and external customers
  • Failure investigation techniques

Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering principles, industry standards, company standards and customer requirements to develop an energetic safety device, and ensure successful qualification and production of energetic safety devices
  • Select applicable analytical data from previous products, determine the technical principles involved, mathematically define the problem and compute the engineering characteristics consistent with the specifications, design needs, and requirements of other portions of the product
  • Coordinate strategy for developing and leveraging multi-disciplinary design, optimization, and analysis processes to support mission requirements. Define and coordinate the conduct of testing required to evaluate design work
  • Perform responsible engineer duties leading the Integrated Product Team of a medium sized subcontract coordinating supplier change notifications, non-conformances, hardware acceptance reviews, etc.
  • Conduct trade studies and evaluate alternative designs
  • Based on broadly defined problems, study basic design concepts and criteria for complex materials, components, or functional systems and apply the engineering principles involved to develop new designs
  • Anticipate customer needs and find innovative ways to provide for those needs
  • Originate and develop constructive ideas. Consistently look for ways to modify or change existing methods or processes to improve outcomes
  • Determine engineering tasks required for project planning and execution; Analyze project requirements and develop detailed planning, conceptual designs, and risk analysis
  • Interact with internal and external customers; Assist the customer in defining system requirements and in the generation of specifications for products or sub systems
  • Develop and present materials for project related briefings including design reviews to be given to internal and external customers
  • Support new business and prepare proposal material
  • Travel up to 10% of the time to supplier facilities
